FIRE CHIEF

Harrisburg, the Capital City of Pennsylvania, is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Fire – Bureau of Fire.  This is a managerial position who directs activities of the municipal Fire Department.  Responsibilities include the protection of lives and property in the City through the design, implementation and coordination of the Bureau of Fire functions and programs.  Work involves planning, directing and coordinating life safety and fire code management, fire suppression, rescue services, hazardous material management, supervision of training of personnel, and administration of laws and regulations affecting the Fire Department.  This position is a component of the ICS Management Staff on major incidents and serves as the Emergency Management Director for the City of Harrisburg.  Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Mayor, Director of Public Safety, and the Chief of Staff.

Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science or Fire Service Administration, or related field; ten (10) years of experience in a professional fire department, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.  A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, class C or equivalent.

The salary range is negotiable depending on qualifications, plus excellent fringe benefits.  The successful candidate must establish residency within the corporate limits of the City of Harrisburg within one year from date of hire.
